RING IN GOOD FORM

Australians Defeat Gentlemen i EDRICH MAKES CENTURY (N.Z.P. A.—Copyright). (Rec. 10.25 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 2?. Great bowling by Ring started the Australians on their way to a thrilling win by an innings and 81 runs against Gentlemen at Lord’s. The la*3t wicket fell to Johnson with 35 minutes left for play. Gentlemen were all out for 254 after a first innings tally of 245. Ring's five wickets for 69 in 32 overs was a reward for an admirably maintained length, subtle control, and vari- < atiou of pace and flight. When he tricked Edrich into a catch behind with a beautiful leg-break, Gentlemen still had hopes of drawing the game, but these hopes vanished when he followed this success with the wickets of Yard ley, Mann and Wooller in quick succession.

Edrich’s innings was a gallant one on a slightly worn wicket. He batted 195 minutes qncl hit 22 fours. The New Zealander,- Donnelly, again failed. He was missed before he had scored, and after making eight, skied a ball to forward leg. Australia was without Lindwall today), He wa>3i in bed with a chill.
