HAMPSTEAD CLUB
BOWLING
Second Annual Report
The second annual report of the Hampstead Bowling Club, to bo presented at the annual meeting states: “Meetings have been held regularly and have been fairly well attended. A series of community sings were held during the year, and proved to be very successful and created public interest in the activities of the club. The sum of about £SO was raised in this manner. Mr A. C. Wilson gave valuable leadership at those functions, and our thanks are due to him and Mrs J. Whyte (our pianist) for their efforts. We also convey our thanks to those who so generously donated goods for auction, and the.public for its support. Work has proceeded steadily in preparing the green. Many difficulties have been faced, but by hard work and perseverance by a small band of willing workers these difficulties have been mainly overcome, and we anticipate having a. reasonably good playing green in time for this season. The comfnittee would like to place on record the grateful thanks of the club to two members in particular—Mr Alf. Clark and Mr R. Lynn for their strenuous efforts towards preparing the green up to its present state. During the year it was decided to grant full facilities of the green to members on all*week days except Saturdays. Judging by the'interest already shown, we hope to havo a good membership of women players. The balance sheet shows a fairly satisfactory financial position, due to careful' expenditure during the year. Consideration must now be urgently given to the purchase of the necessary equipment, to maintain our playing area. The question of conveniences and the laying of water pipes is also an 'urgent one. The building of a. pavilion under present building conditions will have to be considered at the first suitable opportunity. However, we feel confident that we will have the support of the residents of this district in all matters concerning the welfare and progress of our club. “The club during the year lias suffered the' temporary loss of our secretary, Mr .Alf. Oliver. We hope for his return in-' the near future. Our thanks are due to, Mr E. Harrison for his willingness to undertake this work. We thank*ofir kindred clubs in Ashburton for the advice and help> offered during the year, and trust we will soon have that pleasure of their company on our green. In conclusion, we trust the members will continue the good work they have undertaken. There is still plenty of work for all who are interested. We trust the present members will do all in. their power to interest their friends in becoming members of the club. There are plenty of prospective members in the district, and .by keeping our subscriptions within reach of all, we hope our club will prosper and the sport or bowling wijl benefit in the Ashburton centre by the presence of the Hampstead Club.”
