relief is yet forecast. New York authorities disclosed today that yesterday’s water consump tion, averaging nearly 200 gallons a head, was the highest in the city’s history, and officials are afraid that the continued heat will cause a serious water shortage. Mayor O’Dwyer gave all New York City employees, except police and firemen, a half-holiday to-day because ot the heat. , Industry in many parts of the nation is still disrupted by work stoppages as the result of thousands of employees walking off their jobs because of the heat.

Temperatures throughout the nation are still in the nineties, and in some places over 200. Paradise is cooler than Hell. Paradise a small town in Northern Michigan—recorded only 91, but Hell, in South-eastern Michigan, registered 96. Satan’s Kingdom, in Connecticut, with 95, was also hotter than Lord’s Corner, in Connecticut, where .it was a mere 90.
