Federal Judge Alan Goldsborough, at the Government’s request, to-day set aside the civil contempt of court conviction imposed on John L. Lewis and United Mine workers 1 on April 21 as a result of the recent walkout over miners’ pensions. * 'The . Government’s reason for requesting withdrawal was that the mines are operating again. The Government’s action has no effect on fines of 1,420,000 dollars imposed on the union and 22,000 dollars on Lewis for criminal contempt in refusing to halt the walk-out “forthwith.” . , Lewis and the uniorf are appealing against the fines.
