OLD BOYS v. GERALDINE FRIENDLY matches i The Old Boys Football Club began the 1948 season with friendly matches against Geraldine at Geraldine on Saturday, the seniors drawing three all, aiid the juniors winning 11-3. In the senior game the Geraldine forwards gained the most, of the ball from the scrums and line-outs, their backs lacked penetration. On the few occasions when the speedy Old Boys’ backs saw the ball, faulty passing was responsible for the attack breaking down. The game, however, was fast throughout and was followed by a good number of spectators. Geraldine were first to score when Harper dived across in the corner alter a Geraldine hack movement from Old Boys’ twenty-five. - Hobbs’s kick failed. * From heavy rucking play near the Geraldine line, McGarry, who had been playing a particularly impressive game Cor Old Boys, dived over the line to score. The kick at goal failed, and half-time came with the score 3-3. Both sides went close to scoring’in the second half, but dropped passes spoilt many good movements and the game ended with the score unchanged. JUNIOR MATCH Bright open football was played by both sides in the junior match, the Old Boys’ back-lili’e in particular throwing the ball about in good style. Stayt, Coldicott . and McLaugljlan scored tries for Old Boys, Evans converting. one. Foster scored a try for Geraldine.
