COUNTY CENTRES

EIFFELTON RED CROSS DECISION TO CLOSE BRANCH The eighth annual meeting of the Eiffelton Red Cross was held in the Eiffelton Hall recently. The annual report showed that the funds had been raised by a flower show, concert and dance, and sales tables at meetings. All meetings of the centre were attended by the delegate, Mrs W. R. Brash. Donations were made to Corso, Food for Britain, diversional therapy, Dominion headquarters, Mid-Canterbury Centre and soldier comfort funds. Six warm dressing-gowns had been made for soldiers at Tuarangi Home. Two large parcels of children’s clothing were sent overseas. The books for the year showed a credit balance of £lO 5s 4d. Mrs W. R. Brash, vice-president, then occupied the chair. After the matter had been fully discussed it was decided unanimously to close the branch. At a later meeting it was decided to divide the funds between the MidCanterbury branch and diversionai therapy. The invalid chair purchased by the branch is to remain in use in the district. Mesdames J. Cocks and H. White are to act as trustees. Members were then entertained to afternoon tea by the president. Mrs J. Cocks, and later Mrs R. Quinn, in a happy speech, presented Mrs Cocks with a flower bowl, and Mrs C. Patterson (secretary) Avith a cup, saucer and plate, in appreciation of their services. Mrs S. P. Taylor and Mrs W. R. Brash also spoke. Mrs Cocks suitably replied. During the afternoon items \vere given by Mrs G. Moore and Miss S. Cocks. Competitions were won by Mrs J. McQuilkin jun. and Mrs H. White. METHVEN FOOTBALL CLUB NEW OFFICERS ELECTED Tho annual meeting of the Methven Football Club was well attended. The following officers were elected: Patron, Mr C. J. Crooks.; president, Mr J. S. Lilley; senior vice-presklent, Mr R. P>. Lilley; junior vice-president, Mr W. Maw, snr.: honorary secretary, Mr R. B. Holmes; treasurer, Mr W. F. Carr; honorary auditor, Mr W. J. Owen; committee, Messrs R. McCormick, H. Reesby, P. G. Holmes. C. Dickson, J. O’Reilly, D. McKendvy, T. Dickson, T. McKenzie, C. Wilson, C. Body; club captain, C. Dickson; coaches, senior, J. R. Lilley and D. McDonald, junior, C. Dickson; third grade, H. _ Lunisden; fourth grade, to he appointed; delegates to A.C.R.U., Messrs J. S. Lilley, R. B. Lilley D, McDonald and P. G. Holmes; representative to management committee, Mr K. B. Lilley.
