Mr J. M. Sutherland, chief postmaster at Oamaru, lias received advice of his appointment, on promotion, to the position of deputy chief postmaster at Christchurch. His successor has not yet been appointed. Mr Sutherland was a supervisor in the chief post office at Christchurch before May, 1941, when he left to fill subsequent positions as postmaster at Kaikoura, Taihape and Ashburton.

Mr W. A. McCillivray, lecturer in biochemistry at Massey Agricultural College, has been granted two years’ leave to study for the degree of doctor of philosophy in New Zealand. Mr McGillivray, who will continue his research work on vitamins in animal nurition at Massey College, has been granted one of the first six New Zealand University fellowships for study in the Dominion.
