Mr Percy Coyle, who for nearly 20 years has held the post of general secretary of the National, Council of the Licensed Trade, has been made director of the national council. —P.A.

Officers on the temporary staff, stationed at Burnham military camp, who will retire at the end of the month are: —Captain A. A. McMaster, M.M., Captain O. C. Tully, Captain R. J. Davies, Captain J. D. Ritchie, Captain H. L. Stephenson, Lieutenant J. H. W. Sheppard. Captain W. Maley, and Lieutenant C. W. Batty.

Mr J. L. Grimaldi, chief of staff of the “Otago Daily Times,” has been appointed editor of the “Southland Times” in succession to Mr M. H. llolcfoft, who is retiring from daily journalism. Mr Grimaldi, aged 40, was educated at the Otago Boys’ High School and since has been on the literary staff of the “Otago Daily Times” except for a period overseas with the 2nd N.Z.E.F. Mr Grimaldi will begin his new duties early in May. —P.A

The Rev. J. Browning will leave tomorrow morning for Invercargill, where he will be the guest speaker at the Southland Baptists’ Combined Bible Camp over the Easter period. Mr Browning returns to Ashburton on Tuesday morning. The guest preacher at the Ashburton Baptist Church on Easter Sunday will be Mr Gordon E, Rowe, L.L.8., of Palmerston North. Mr Rowe ie a solicitor of the Supreme Court, and has wide acceptance as a lay preacher. Mr Rowe is accompanied by Mrs Rowe and they will be the guests of the Rev. and Mrs Browning during their stay in Ashburton.

Annual Cricket Match The Ashburton High School cricket team left this morning for Timaru to play its annual cricket match against the Timaru Boys’ High School second eleven.
