DISTRICT NURSE WITH MULTIFUNCTIONS For isolated districts the combined district’ health nurse, embracing a wide field of functions, was by far the most satisfactory proposition, Dr. G. L. McLeod (Medical Officer of Health for the Timaru district) told a meeting of parents and teachers of the Ashburton East School last evening. At Tekapo the combined nurse, was a “kind mother to the whole of the Public Works Camp,” said the speaker. She looked after school children, pre-school children, followed up tubercular cases and even stood in for the doctor, the nearest medical practitioner being aj, Fairlie. “Individuals are not enough. The units we must work on to-day are the family,” said Dr. McLeod, giving the reason why he considered such a combined nurse so desirabe.
