MILD EARTHQUAKE SHOCK

NO DAMAGE REPORTED

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 15. A prolonged but weak earthquake chock was felt in a number of towns in the southern part of the North Island and the north of the South Island at 9.14 this evening. It lasted about 43 seconds in Wellington, where it set lights swinging and buildings creaking. No damage was reported. The tremors seem to have been of about equal intensity in Masterton, Woodville, Palmerston North, and Wanganui. From Palmerston North it is reported that they were preceded by a rumble. They were also felt weakly in Hawera. New Plymouth was only lightly shaken and Blenheim and Picton reported only feeble tremors. Dannevirke, Napier, and Gisborne did not feel the earthquake.

Some Ashburton residents report feeling a very -slight tremor at 9.15 last evening. Hanging lamps swayed slightly, and buildings were heard to creak.
