SHOULD EVACUATE PALESTINE
BRITISH OPINION CHANGING MOMENTOUS DECISION SOON (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter— Copyright). XRec. 10.10 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 15. Well-informed quarters say that British official opinion is moving strongly toward the view that Britain should evacuate Palestine at the earliest opportunity, says Reuter’s diplomatic correspondent. A Cabinet meeting on September 18 is expected to make a decision on Palestine policy in preparation for the forthcoming debate in the United Nations General Assembly. Mr A. Creech-Jones is expected back in London on September 17 from Jamaica, and leaves for New York the next week-end. The momentous decis--ion whether Britain should relinquish her mandate will be, made during his brief stay in London. Azzam Pasha, secretary-general of the Arab League, said at a London press conference, that the Arabs would implacably resist any attempt to impose the United Nations recommendations on Palestine. The ultimate hope of the Arabs was for an Arab Federation stretching from the Atlantic to the Persian Gulf, and that the Jews would be on the Arabs’ side in building a new civilisation and culture:
