COUNTY CENTRES
ASHTON-WATERTON W.I. \ Mrs Pearson presided over a good attendance of the Ashton-Waterton W.I. at the July meeting. The motto was: “There is no time past learning sometiling.” Arrangements were made for the birthday party next month. . Miss Bratley gave a very interesting demonstration of the curing oi skins Competitions resulted: Home-made Bread: Mrs Blee 1, Mrs Shimmin 2; Moccasins: Miss Lovett 1, Mrs Shimmin and Mrs Muir (equal) 2:' Skin Gloves: Mrs Shimmin 1, Miss Lovett 2: Spike: Mrs Gilmour 1, Mrs Pearson 2’ Bloom: Miss Whearty 1, Mrs Shimmin and Miss Wootten (equal) 2; Collection of Four Vegetables: Mrs Shimmin 1. Miss Wootten 2. The hostess was Miss Wootten.
LOWCLIFFE-COLDSTREAM, SUB-BRANCH OF RED CROSS A meeting of the Lowcliffe-Cold-stream Red Cross Society was held recently. Mrs E. Barnes presided over an attendance of 15 members. One new member was elected. The financial statement showed a substantial credit balance. Donations to the following were passed for payment: Ashburton Centre Comforts Fund, therapy work, Crippled Children’s Association and health camp.
Letters from recipients of six food parcels were read and enjoyed. Miss Tait gave a report on the meeting of the Ashburton Centre held recently. Material was distributed to be made into garments, also a large parcel was packed for Cor so. The hostesses were Mrs IT. Price and Miss F. Tait.
The next meeting will be held on Saturday afternoon, August 9.
HINDS hall committee ARRANGEMENTS FOR BALL t ~ Representatives of the R.S.A., Young Fanners’ Club, Young People’s Club, Hockey Club and the Women’s Institute attended a meeting of the Hinds Hall Committee recently, when the hall was decorated for the ball to be held on Tuesday to celebrate the re-opening of the newly-renovated hall/ A short musical programme was arranged. Mrs G. Farrell (Women’s Institute) was appointed to be in charge of the supper arrangements. It was decided that during the evening opportunity should be taken to express the appreciation of‘ the community for the work done during the war and post-war years by the recently disbanded Soldiers’ Farewell and Welcome Home Committee. Invitations would be extended to all who had assisted in any way, to be the guests of the Hall Committee at the ball. . The president (Mrs J. McQuilkin) presided.
