DISPLACED PERSONS

AUSTRALIA WANTS 12,000 YEARLY (Rec. 11.5 a.m.) LONDON, July IS. _ The Australian Minister for Immigration, Mr J. T. Cal well, stated in Berlin to-day that Australia was prepared to take 12,000 displaced persons from Europe yearly, including 5000 from the British zone in Germany. “We would prefer emigrants from the United Kingdom, but unfortunately the shipping is not available for the large numbers Australia would like in the next two or three years,” he added.
