Mr H. C. B. Withell (Ealing) lias been elected a member of the executive committee of the. New Zealand Counties’ Association. » Miss M. E. Smith, who recently left the firm' of Drummond and Etheridge of Ashburton, was presented with a fireside chair before her departure. She is to be married shortly. Dr. A. G. Bogle, a senior radio research officer of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, will visit the radar research station at the Ashburton airport next week. Dr. M. A. F. Barnett, Dr. E. Beaglehole, Miss Lucy B. Moore and Professor H. G. Forder have been elected members of the Royal Society of New Zealand, according to a Gazette notice. —P.A. Sir Harold Johnston, a former Judge of the Supreme Court, and Judge E. M. Beecliey, of the Native Land Court, have been appointed president and member of the special Lake Taupo Control Compensation Court to deal with claims for compensation arising from control of the level of waters in Lake Taupo and regulation of the flow of the Waikato River. —P.A.
