CONFIDENCE IN MR HOLLAND
EXPRESSION BY METHVEN I NATIONAL BRANCH Congratulations were extended to Mr R. G. Gerald on his re-election to Parliament as member for the Ashburton electorate, and confidence was expressed in Mr S. G. Holland as leader at. the National Party, at the annual meeting of the Methven branch of the National Party. Mr A. D. McLauchlan presided over a good attendance.' A welcome was extended to Mr and Mrs Gerard, Mr 1,. A. Charles (electorate chairman) and Mr .T. Paterson (electorate organiser). A report on the year’s work stated that, the election had caused great interest, and membership had been considerably increased. The financial position had been very favourable, and in the coming -year members were requested to remember the possibility of another election, and to prepare for it by making their voluntary contributions as large as possible. Mr Charles spoke on work in the electorate, and Mr Paterson spoke on organisation. Mr Gerard addressed members, speaking on the results of the election and tire probable trend of events in tlie near future as seen by members of the Opposition. The election of officers resulted: Chairman, Mr A. D. McLauchlan; vice-chairman, Mr C. C. Winn; secretary and treasurer, Mr A. W. Wilson ; auditor, Mr A. G. Rawlinson; committee, Mesdames Milne, A. W. Wilson, A. D. McLauchlan, Rawlinson, G. McLaehlan, Barclay, Messrs J. A. McDonald, E. S. Ayers, Penney, E. S. Johnstone, Maw, E. A. Mangin, Cotterell, Leask.
