DULL AND COOL TO-DAY The weather in Ashburton to-day was dull and cool, with scarcely any breeze. During last night .1 degree of frost was registered at the Domain and yesterday only .8 hours of sunshine were recorded. , The maximum temperature yesterday was 56 degrees, compared with 60.4 the previous day, and the minimum last night was 33.6 against 33. The barometer had fallen from 30.03 inches to 29*98 at 9.30 a.m. today. The earth temperature was 47.5 degrees, an increase of half a degree bn the corresponding reading 24 hours earlier. COLD CONDITIONS EXPECTED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, . at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather: General situation: A deep depression is moving on to the North Island and a cold front is crossing the South Island. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru to 5 p.m. to-morrow is as follows: Southt-wtesterly winds prevailing and becoming fresh or strong on the coast; weather fair to cloudy at first, but occasional rain developing about and north of Banks Peninsula by tomorrow ; temperatures cold. Further outlook: Similar conditions.
