IMPRESSIVE COMMUNION A large number of members of the Ashburton Presbyterial Association met with the members of the Ashburton Presbytery in an impressive communion service at St. Andrew’s Church on Tuesday morning. The Moderator of Presbytery, the Rev. J. G. Mathews, of Mayfield, presided, and the sermon was preached by the Rev. R. Taylor, of Hinds. After the communion service a. combined luncheon was held in St. Andrew’s Hall at which there were about 120 present. The president of the P.A., Mrs Mcllroy, presided and extended a welcome to all. The Moderator thanked the ladies for their tine effort and recommended that such a luncheon becomes an annual event. Two honoured guests, the Rev. Allan Brash, secretary of the National Council of Churches, and Mr T. C. Brash, past Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church, both addressed the gathering briefly. Mrs Mackie, of Lauriston, sang a solo. Later the two-monthly meeting of the P.A. was held, at which Mrs Mcllroy presided over a large attendance. Various members took part, the following giving papers on various mission fields: Mrs R. Brown on home mission work, followed by prayer, led by Mrs Naisniith ; Mrs Kingan on the Maori held, followed by prayer led by Mrs Crawford; Mrs Mathews on New Hebrides, followed by prayer led by Mrs L. Houston; and Airs E. O. Norrish on China, followed hv prayer led by Airs QUiver. Alembers were asked to bring parcels of medical supplies, soap and cardigans and pullovers for our Indian field, to the June meeting.
Afternoon tea was served, the hosteses being Allenton, Ashburton East, and St. Andrew’s members.
