EARTHQUAKE AND ERUPTION
SAN SALVADOR TOWN WRECKED SAN SALVADOR, Jam 29. A combination of earthquake and volcanic eruption which began on Sunday wrecked or damaged every building in the Republic of Salvador’s leading port, La Union, on the Gulf of Fonseca.
Eyewitnesses said that because of the danger of falling buildings the entire population of 10,000 is living in the parks and is dependent on the Salvodorean Red Cross for supplies. Two hundred earth tremors occurred up to noon yesterday. The eruption of Conchauga Volcano is now abating, but a pall of smoke still overhangs the sea, and lava is flowing into the sea. Only one person is so far known to have died as the result of the upheaval.
