WAIPIATA PATIENTS
REPORTS PRESENTED AT MEETING The Waipiata Sanatorium Committee held its monthly meeting in the Otago Hospital Board’s Office, Dunedin. The chairman, Mr E. Macdonald, presided, and Mr R. Oakley represented the Ashburton Hospital Board. The secretary of the Maniototo Hospital Board, Ranfurly, advised that Mr B. A. Todd, of Naseby, had been elected that board’s representative on the committee to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Mr Wm. C. Davis. Mr Todd, who had previously been a member of the committee, was welcomed by the chairman. The medical superintendent (Dr. A Kidd) reported that during October, 28 patients had been admitted, 25 were discharged, and 132 were in the institution at the end of the month. He recommended as suitable for admission to the Sanatorium, two patients from Southland, five from South Canterbury and two from Waitaki, a total of nine. The secretary reported that on December 2 the Associated Boards had patients in the institution as follows: Southland 64, South Canterbury 38, Ashburton five, Waitaki 12, South Otago eight, Vincent 10, Maniototo one —a total of 138. Since the previous meeting nine patients! from three hospital districts had been discharged and there was a waiting list of 19 patients from five districts. The average number of occupied beds per day for the seven months ended October 31, was 129.2.
The farm manager submitted returns of milk and meat supplied to the institution during October, and advised that at the end of the month there were 83 cattle, 717 sheep and 41 pigs on the farm. Account sales! of skins and hides for the month amounted to £134 Os 9d. The treasurer submitted statements of the committee’s receipts and payments showing that on October 31 there was a credit balance of £24,639 Os 2d, which includes an amount of £19,600 invested on fixed deposit for capital works not yet commenced. Statements of receipts' and payments for the seven months ended October 31 as compared with the amounts estimated for the period were also submitted, the actual maintenance payments! being £BS 11s 3d which brought the maintenance payments £7OB 12s 4d above the estimates. It was decided to hold the next meeting of the committee on Wednesday, January 29, 1947, at Orangapai.
