Shortly after 11.30 a.m. an officer checking the tickets of passengers boarding the Hythe flying-boat Hamilton prior to departure for England found a man aged 30 in a cabin. After insisting that his name was on the list, he admitted that he hoped to get to Singapore, where a large sum of money was waiting for him. He was conducted to a launch, but when the launch was 50 yards from the jetty he dived overboard.. The crew had difficulty in locating the swimmer in the darkness, and the man reached a slipway, where he was headed off and taken into custody. He was later released.
