NEW OFFICE
WILL ABSORB WAR AGENCIES (Rec. 11 a.m.) WASHINGTON, Dec. 12 President Truman lias announced the creation of. a new “Office of Temporary Controls,” which will absorb the Office of Price Administration, Mobilisation and Reconversion Office, and most, other ’remaining war agencies. Major-General Philip Fleming will be head of the new office, while the former reconversion director, John R. Steelman, will act as the President’s assistant in co-ordinating the Federal agencies’ programmes and policies. President Truman said that strikes had prevented the ending of war emergency which otherwise would have been accomplished before this. President Truman announced that he is sending three messages to Congress on separate days early in January, firstly on the state of the union; secondly, the Budget, and thirdly the Government’s Economic Council recommendations. President Truman declined to say whether he was recommending special labour legislation.
