BIG PROGRAMME AHEAD
AMATEUR ATHLETIC, AND CYCLING CLUB The executive of the Ashburton Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club met this week to make arrangements for the first half of the season. Adverse weather has affected its activities up to the present time. It was decided that the following events should he held at a meeting on Tuesday evening: 100 yards for colts (under 15), juniors, seniors and women; 220 yards for juniors; 440 yards for seniors; 880 yards for seniors; broad jump for women, juniors and seniors; discus throwing; marching and a cycle race. The club will *be represented at athletic meetings at Temuka on Saturday, December 7, and at Timaru on December 14 and; January 1. An inter-club relay meeting will be held at Ashburton on December 21, when teams from Timaru, Temuka, Waimate and the combined country clubs will compete against the Ashburton Club. The South Canterbury championships will be held at Ashburton on February 22. Evening meetings will be held fortnightly from January 7, The club called a meeting of women interested in marching, and as a resuit will have at least one team to represent it. It was also reported that in addition tq last year’s teams, a team from “Arcadia” would be competing this year. Cycling will also be held in conjunction with the evening meetings, the first event at next meeting being a road race to finish on the Domain oval.
