REPORT DENIED
FIGHTING IN AZERBAIJAN (Rec. 11.15 a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 5. A Persian military spokesman denied the Tabriz radio report that the Azerbaijan boi'der had been crossed and fighting had broken out, says Reuter’s Teheran correspondent. 'The spokesman added that Government forces remained on the Azerbaijan border and would not fight without orders, which so far had not been given. He said, however, that Zolfaghari tribesmen, who were loyal to the Government, attacked Azerbaijan troops in a 10-minute clash. A later ‘message says that the Azerbaijan Premier, Mr Pishevari, broadcasting on Tabriz radio, said: “The Persian army has again launched an attack on an unprecedented scale, with tanks and grenades, near Tazekhan. We repelled the attack. There were heavy casualties on both sides.” Reuter’s Teheran correspondent quotes a military spokesman as saying that there was no fighting at Tazekhan. The correspondent adds that reliable eye-witness reports said there was complete calm at Tazelthan yesterday and on Tuesday.
