AWARD TO SCHOOL
, LIFE-SAVING CUP WON BY BOROUGH “The annual report of the Canterbury branch of the Royal Life Saving Society shows that the school has again won the Collins ' Cup, which is awarded to the school that has the best results in boys’ life-saving. Our girls were runners up. to Craighead School, Timaru, for'the girls’ trophy,” saicl the report of the headmaster (Mr M. J. Leith) presented at the monthly meeting of the Ashburton Borough School Committee last evening. Mr W. H. Sarney (chairman) presided. The headmaster’s report also stated that the average number on the roll during September was 444. G, the average attendance 386.6 or 86.9 per cent. The number of pupils at present on the roll was 445. The headmaster asked for the usual holidays for the Ashburton and Christchurch shows. The committee approved of the show holidays. Mr B. Dobbie was selected to represent the committee at the annual meeting of the Ashburton Swimming Club this evening.
Those present were Messrs Sarney, Dobbie, R. Gluyas, L. Colville, H. Pearce, A. Holmes and E, R. Easterbrook.
