French Swim Suits Again Provoke Strong Reaction in Sydney
' ; (Roc. 12.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. French swim suits in Australian style ,have made their appearance again in city store mannequin ■4 shows. One creation, which consisted of a very brief strapless brassiere and piece of material held in position by a cord round the mannequin’s waist,- has evoked strong reaction froni Municipal ; Council members. “These costumes are partly the cause of attacks on women a night,” said Mr L. A. Ellison, deputy-Mayor of Manly. “If I see any woman on Manly beach wearing one of them I will do my best to have her prosecuted. Women wear them only to attract attention, and when anyone whistles, they are the first to complain.” Alderman H. N. Sharman, Mayor of Waverley, said that such costumes would not be allowed at Bondi. Alderman A. J. Barlow, of Ballina, which allowed the French swim suits last year, said: “I think this time they are going too far.”
