ST. JAMES THEATRE The screen version of Eugene O’Neill’s famous Nobel Prize winning play “The Hairy Ape,” which is showing finally to-night at the St. James Theatre, makes most unusual and gripping entertainment. It is the story of Hank,- a big, grime smeared stoker, sure of himself and his important job of making steam to make liis ship go, whose faith in himself is upset by contact with a beautiful girl who ventured into the stokehold to see how the “other half” lived and called him a “hairy ape.” William Bendix is perfect in the role of Hank and Susan is also ideal for the role of society girl. It is definitely something new and very interesting. The associate feature is “The Port of 40 Thieves,” a mystery drama with Stephanie Bachelor and Richard Powers co-starring. The serial will also be shown to-night. “Here Come the Waves” ■ Bing Crosby, Betty Hutton and Sonny Tufts are the stars- of Paramount’s musical comedy “Here Como the Waves,” which will be shown at' the- 'St. James on Saturday and Monday at matinee and evening sessions. It is a very bright and humorous show, with plenty of fun and catchy songs and music to enliven the proceedings.
