AUGUST 23 1914—Battle of Le Cateau. Battle of Mons. Japan declared war on Germany. 1940 —Italy reported to have given Greece 24 hours to renounce British guarantee. 1942 — Brazil declares war on Germany and Italy. 1943 Southern Italy’s railway system extensively bombed by Allied Air Forces. 1944 -Paris liberated by French forces and Marseilles occupied. Rumania capitulates, accepts Russian peace terms.
