QUEEN CARNIVAL

SELECTION OF CANDIDATES * Good progress is being made toward the selection of queen candi- , dates for the forthcoming carnival which, it was decided at a largely-attended meeting recently, is to be held in aid of the Ashburton R.S.A. building fund. At this meeting, it was decided to have three queen candidates, representing different sections of the district. As far as the Sports Queen is concerned, it is obvious where she will secure her support*. A candidate •will also be forthcoming representative of Industry and f Commerce, and she will be accorded the support of business concerns such as drapers, grocers, West Street firms, shops and offices and all industries including woollen mills, freezing works, transport companies etc. The Rural Queen of course, will have the support of the farming community. The selection of respective candidates will be made at meetings as follows: — . • Industries and Commerce, at the R.S.A. rooms, West Street, at 7.0 p.m. on Tuesday. Sports, at the R.S.A. rooms, Tancred Street, at 8 p.m. on Thursday. Rural, at a meeting on the night of August 20. - •• ■->"-• All interested organisations are Invited to send delegates to these meet- . ♦ ings, for, besides the selection- of • candidates, campaign committees will be set up and four members of these will be appointed to the central executive of the carnival.
