LENGTHY SESSION OF COUNCIL VARIOUS MATTERS DECIDED Members of the Ashburton County Council had a lengthy session yesterday, and the monthly meeting did not conclude until approximately 5 p.m. Matters dealt Avith after the “Guardian” went to press included the following: The Main HighAvays Board advised that it still financed local bodies In the purchase of plant, its terms being 10 per cent, of the cost prices on delivery and the remainder by halfyearly instalments spread over not more than four years, with interest ar 5 per cent, on the reducing price. On the recommendation of the Avorks committee, it was decided to prohibit ploughing of gorse on road sides for further than IS feet from the fence, except in special cases and when special permission is granted by the engineer (Mr R. L. Lindsay). The Ashburton Borough Council Avrote requesting the use of a bulldozei* for about tAVO days for work in the Patching Street reserve. It Avas decided to make the machine available to the borough free of cost, as a donation tOAvards the Domain funds.
