BOXING

ASHBURTON TOURNEY GOOD SPORT IN PROSPECT Various arrangements in connection with the Ashburton. Boxing Association’s next tournament on August 12 were made at a recent meeting of the committee. It was decided to reserve a block of ringside seats for members, this obviating the necessity for them to book. The price for the gallery was fixed at 4s, and it wasi also agreed that the concession to schoolboys should apply to back stalls only. Reports were received that 10 excellent bouts had already practically been arranged, with several others still to be finalised. Visiting boxers will be present from Dunedin, Timaru and Christchurch. Matches at this tournament will have an important bearing on the selection of teams for the Canterbury and New Zealand championships, so it is anticipated that they will be very keenly contested.
