WELLINGTON, July 31. “It is not and never has been the policy of the Government to ‘put up civil servants’ to make political speeches,” said the Minister of Marketing (the Hon. B. Roberts), ansAvering Mr J. T. Watts (Opposition, Riccarton), in the House of .Representatives, to-day. Mr Watts had asked Avhether the Minister approved the action of Mr Ross Fraser, Director of Marketing, in attending a meeting of co-operative societies im Palmerston North, and making a political speech. Mr Roberts said Mr Ross Fraser was present at the conference in his official capacity, and Avith the Minister’s approval spoke on the functions and activities of the Internal Marketing Division. It Avas the Government’s policy to assist in every way improved and new methods of food distribution, whether originating Avith producers or consumers. The statements attributed to Mr Ross Fraser were part of an explanation of the work of the division since its inception in 1937. <
