MONTHLY MEETING There was a fair attendance of members of the Lauriston branch of the Women’s Institute. In the absence of [the president (Mrs H. T. Crothers), Mrs J. N. Mclntosh presided. Mrs A. Goodwin read the motto for the month, which was: “Cheerfulness or joyfulness is the atmosphere under which all things thrive.” The roll call was “Talents I should choose, and why.” Members decided to celebrate the birthday of the branch on the September meeting day, the function to take the form of a- social afternoon. Those present brought gifts for the lepers, but as .the attendance was not large, it was agreed to accept further gifts at the August meeting. Competitions resulted: Bowl of flowers, Mrs N. Boag 1, Mrs J. A. Mackie 2, Mrs A. Goodwin and Mrs C. Fyfe (equal) 3; bloom, Mrs Mackie 1, Mrs V. Boag and Mrs A. Goodwin (equal) 2, Mrs J. Pluck and Mrs Fyfe (equal) 4; prettiest plate, Mrs Fyfe 1, Mrs Pluck 2, Mrs Boag 3; cream puffs (no cream), Mrs J. Pluck 1. The hostesses were Mrs V. Boag and Miss L. Letham.
