MONTHLY MEETING Mrs S. M. Jackman presided over the monthly meeting of the Metliven Women’s Institute. Five new members were elected. Mrs A. G. Candy was in charge of the sales table. A donation of 10s was handed in by Mrs Ruckshaw. The link letter from the Women’s Institute, Methven, Scotland, was read, and it was decided to send a cake monthly to them, four members to share the cost. Offers were accepted for making and for material for the cake. The president urged members to assist in the fat collection for Britain. A collection of tins 'had already been forwarded to the Red Cross. Mrs C- Jeffs was appointed honorary secretary in place of Mrs D. Chambers, who resigned. An interesting address on his recent trip to America on irrigation matters was delivered by Mr J. O. Riddell, irrigation engineer, P.W.D., Methven, and he was accorded a vote of thanks. Competitions resulted: —Knitted hot water bag cover, Mrs Jackman 1, Mrs R'. Ireland 2, Mrs D. Chambers 3; necklace, Mrs J. Dolan 1, Mrs S. M. Jackman 2, Mrs A. Dart 3; eggless cake, Mrs Morgan 1; carrots, Mrs W. Hannah 1, Mrs A. G. Candy 2, Mrs A. Dart 3; truss or spike, Mrs Jackman 1, Mrs D. Chambers 2, Mrs 'W. R. Morgan 3; small bloom, Mrs R. G. Graham 1, Mrs A. G. Candy 2, Mrs S. M. Jackman 3; large bloom, Mrs A. G. Candy 1, Mrs W. R. Morgan 2.
