; BLACKSMITH BEFORE COURT SPECIAL EXAMINATION SOUGHT (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. William Andrew Smythe, a blacksmith, aged 51, charged with attempting to murder Martha Edwards Smythe, was remanded till June 27 by Mr H. P. Lawry S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court this morning. Mr R. A. Young, for the accused, askecl that Smythe be examined by a specialist in mental disorders, as his history indicated the necessity. The police allegation is that Smythe, who has been living apart from his wife for 10 weeks, went to her residence at '9 Edenbridge Street, Spreydon, about 9.15 yesterday morning and placed a quantity of poison in the milk billy, replacing the lid and leav-. ing the premises without being seen.
