AID FOR BRITAIN

HAMPSTEAD RED CROSS FORWARDING OF PARCELS Matters relating to the forwarding of food parcels to Britain made up the bulk of the business at the monthly meeting on Tuesday of the committee of the Hampstead Red Gross Society. The president, Mrs J. Robinson, was in the chair. Mrs Geo Morrow forwarded an outline of a varied gift food parcel to send to Britain, and intimated that in a letter of appreciation for a similai one forwarded to the old country, ii was stated that the food had arrived in perfect condition.

<9 A,n appeal for donations of goods for sale by auction at the “Aid for Britain” concert and community sing on June 26 was made by Mrs J. W. Tinker, and members promised strong support. Several names of relatives and friends in Britain were handed in with a view to food parcels being sent to them. Donations received for inclusion in parcels for Britain included a quantity of soap and several knitted garments.

It was reported that food parcels had been forwarded to Matron Watt (formerly of Ashburton, but now in Scotland) and relatives of Mys Thomson.

The president reported having attended the 25th anniversary of the Sailors’ Rest at Timaru and, on the motion of Mrs Scales, seconded by Mrs Williams, she was accorded a vote of thanks.

It was; reported that the ditty bags given; by Mrs Martin had bqen well filled, and had been handed over to Mrs H. L. Barker for distribution to returned servicemen in hospital.. A good response was received to a recent appeal for gifts of books and magazines for the T.oc H. Motions of sympothy with Mr J. K. Mather -and the Childs family were carried, and it was decided to send letters of cheer to Mrs Geo Mprrow and Mr J. Smith.
