DEMAND FOR MORE WAGES
SLAUGHTERMEN REFUSE TO WORK (P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 31. ■ After a stop-Avork meeting yesterday, about 20 mutton slaughtermen of the Gear Meat Company at Petone presented a demand for the payment of £7 a Aveek net wages until the end of the season. The management said in reply that it Avas bound by regulation to pay £G gross a Aveek. As a result the men refused to resume Avork. Although the mutton season is uoav tailing off, it is not yet over and usually lasts into July.
