LIABILITY ISSUE
COUNTY DRAINS AND BRIDGES Some doubt exists as to whether the Ashburton County Council or the South Canterbury Catchment Board is liable for certain work in the district, and it was resolved, at the council meeting this afternoon to ask the board for a conference to decide the different issues. Subjects .to be discussed at this conference include: Responsibility for reinstatement of bridges over drains, various points, regarding water races, maintenance of roadside drains, river crossings, river control and protection of bridges. The chairman (Mr M. S. Turton), Crs. M. D. McDowell, S. P. Taylor, .J. Bland and H. C. B. Withell were appointed a committee to meet the board,
