TRIBUTE TO PRESS

FIELD-MARSHAL MONTGOMERY LONDON, May 29. Field-Marshal Viscpunt Montgomery, speaking at a Newspaper Press Fund dinner, stated that during the war he did not experience a single attempt by a war correspondent to send back news which would endanger security or cost lives. Paying tribute to the work of the Press during the war, Viscount Montgomery said that no truly democratic nation could function without a free Press, which enlightened public opinion. No one wanted to see either a controlled Press or the elimination of free journalistic enterprise.
