AMERICA OBSTRUCTED
EFFORTS TOWARD WORLD PEACE (Rec. 12.30) WASHINGTON, May 30. ReaV-Admiral W. S. Carney, assistant Chief of Naval Operations and formerly Admiral Halsey’s chief-of-staff, said at a memorial day dinner that America’s efforts for world peace were being obstructed by a great nation whose very concept was based on fomenting disorder and disunity. Rear-Admiral Carney said that America’s efforts were also sorely handicapped by hasty and selfish demobilisation, which had stripped America of military powers and prestge which would give authority to its councils to influence' peaceful democratic procedures everywhere. Rear-Admiral Carney did not name the nation referred to, but said it had emerged from the war a powerful, great, and determined driving force, which opposed virtually every belief and ideal we hold dear. “It is aware of its power, and opposes our weakness at every turn,’’ he said. “Its unyielding forces refuse to permit the world to make peace.”
