SMALL BOY SAVES BROTHER

FIRST THOUGHT IN BURNING HOUSE (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. A six-year-old boy saved his baby brother from death this morning when their home caught, fire. The boy’s mother, Mrs R. J. E. Gregory had gone out shopping. The boy went up to the front of the house at 349 St. Asaph Street, a few minutes later to find that the place was on fire. One room was well alight while the bedroom directly opposite was full of smoke. The boy immediately thought of his baby brother sleeping in his cot in the bedroom. He dashed through the smoke, lifted the baby from his cot and ran with him out into the backyard. Screams from the boy soon attracted the attention of neighbours, who gave the alarm. Machines from the Central Fire Brigade were at the house in less tftan three minutes and firemen, who were told that the baby was still in the front room, donned their special breathing apparatus and entered the room, which was now blazing. They were then told that the boy had rescued his brother. The fire was soon extinguished but the front rooms of the house were severely damaged.
