SMART ARREST
HOLD-UP !N LOWER HUTT THREE MEN INVOLVED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. , Following the hold-up of a Lower Hutt sweetshop last night, three young men, one of them carrying a loaded 38 calibre revolver, were arrested in the Esplanade at Petone 15 minutes after the robbery was first reported to the police. About 10 p.m. a man with a white handkerchief over the lower part ,of his face entered the sweetshop of the ;De Luxe Theatre in High Street, Lower Hutt, with a revolver, and demanded the in the till. The proprietress,* Mrs A. Jones, who was warned not to scream or attempt to follow him, was badly frightened, but took careful note of such of the man’s features as she could see above the handkerchief, and also of his clothing. Meanwhile another young man, believed to be an accomplice,, entered the theatre manager’s office and asked the time, apparently with the intention of occupying attention while the hold-up was proceeding. Soon after three young men were seen running in the direction of the bus depot. The police were informed and 15 minutes later, and only 20 minutesi after the robbery, detectives in a radio car arrested the three young In connection with the hold-up, Michael David Marsh (18), no occupation, John Mullaney (21), farmhand, and Dennis Arnold Cyril Pi lastly (19), labourer appeared in the Magistrate’s Court this morning charged that, being armed with a revolver, they robbed Ada Anne Jones of £4 14s 6 >tr H. G. Hume, J.P., remanded them until June 4.
