GAMES IN ASHBURTON MEN’S COMPETITION RESULTS Bright hockey was witnessed on Saturday when Ashburton competition matches were played. Three senior men’s games were played at the Domain and one at Lauriston. Wakanui, Baring Square, Barrhill and Lane, Walker, Rudkin were the winning teams. Wakanui beat Ashburton A by 7 goals to 1. The winners kept good control of the ball and opposing attacks were usually broken up by neat interceptions on the part of the halfbacks. H. Sinclair (4), G. Bennett (2), and T. Bennett (1) scored for Wakanui, and N. Willis was responsible for Ashburton’s goal. Umpires were Messrs H. Stewart and A. C. Vincent Combining excellently, Lane, Walker, Rudkin made no race of it against Lowcliffe, winning by 11 to 1. Scorers for the winning team were G. Le Compte (4), P. Bates (3), C. Morris (2), K. Montgomery (1), and G. Young (1), while G. Barnes scored for Lowcliffe. Messrs K. Fowke and A. C. Vincent umpired the match. In an even game, Baring Square (M. Beauvais; 2. and F. Simpson 1) beat Ashburton B by 3 goals to 0. Messrs K. G. Fowke and W. H. Vaughan were the umpires. Barrhill (J. Mounsey 2, H. Maw 1, J. Dixon (1), beat Rokeby (M. Doig 3) in a match played at Lauriston, by 4 goals to 3, when Mr G. Sloper was the referee.

Women’s Matches

In women’s matches, Lowcliffe and Methven staged a great game, with the issue always in doubt. Both sides were very sound on defence and excellent combination was a feature throughout. Lowcliffe won by the odd goal in three, J. Bain and I. McKay scoring for them, while S. Owen netted for Methven. Mr W. T. Corbett was the umpire. Technical Old Girls A 6 (G. Haack 3, E. Harrison 2, and B. Blackburn 1) beat Ashburton 1 (M. Donaldson) in another senior fixture played at the Domain. Mrs S. Chibnall dnd Miss M. Henderson umpired the match. Junior matches resulted: —Lowcliffe 4, Methven 0; Hinds 1, Rakaia 1.
