POWER BOARD
BRIEF MONTHLY MEETING Affairs of the Ashburton Electric Power Board were dealt with at the monthly meeting this morning, when Mr E. F. Nicoll presided over the following:—Messrs W. G. Gallagher, W. H. Rundle, Hunter Morris, D. Campbell, R. F. Mulligan, W. H. Wilkinson, S. P. Taylor, J. Carr, W. H. Woods, W. Bryant and H. J. Crothers. The financial statement, as at May 23, showed that the power fund amount, including accounts to the amount of £9813 passed for payment to-day, was overdrawn to the extent of £23,203 (compared with £23,954 a month earlier). Revenue for last month was .as follows: —Domestic £3135 (increase of £240), commercial £SO3 (£143), and power £1334 (£230). The total, 5 including sundries, was £5317, an increase of £6ll compared with April of last year.
Chairman 15 Years
At the annual meeting, held subsequently, Mr Nicoll was unanimously re-elected chairman for the 15th sum cessive year, several speakers paying high tributes'to his very able work in the position. Messrs Gallagher, Rundle, Woods and the chairman were re-appointed the works and. financial committee. The reports of the chairman, en-gineer-secretary (Mr H. G. Kemp), and other officers (as detailed in other columns) were adopted practically without discussion.
The chairman referred briefly to the position of the board’s loans, pointing out that, since its initiation, loans by way of debentures produced £509,000, of which £129,000 had been repaid. “This shows we are on a very solid financial basis,” added Mr Nicoll.
Votes of thanks were accorded the chairman, board officers, finance and works committee, and the local newspaper.
