FIFTY YEARS SYNE # (From the “Guardian,” May 27, 1896). Hockey.—A local team of Hockey players: met a team from Christchurch yesterday on the sports ground at the Ashburton Domain. Play commenced at 3 o’clock, and was carried on vigorously for an hour, during which time each side scored two goals, and tlie match ended in a draw. The visitors played remarkably well and appeared to be. in good form, and practice, The local players, however, showed great smartness. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (From thq "Guardian,” May 27, 1921). New Workshops.—The new jworkshops for woodwork and engineering classes at the Ashburton Technical High School are now nearing completion. The building is in brick, very spacious and lofty, providing accommodation for larger classes. The equipment already provided is very up to date and when it is' transferred into the new building, the classes will be well provided for.
