BLEAK WEEK-END Twenty points of rain fell in Ashburton yesterday, when conditions were bleak and cold. Similar weather was experienced to-day, light showers falling intermittently. The maximum temperature yesterday was 49.6 degrees, against'46.B on Friday. The lowest reading last night was 40.2 degrees (30)i The barometer to-day registered 29.76 inches. SCATTERED DRIZZLE (P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather: — General situation: A secondary depression is located east of Canterbury, and a weak anti-cyclone is over the North Tasman. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru to 5 p.m. to-morrow is as follows: — South-westerly winds, strong at | first about Banks Peninsula but moderate otherwise; weather, cloudy and cold, with some further rain, but improving during to-morrow.
