DEATH OF MR W. J. A. McGREGOR (P.A.) INVERCARGILL, This Day. The death occurred this morning of Mr W. J. A. McGregor, after a prolonged illness. He was a well-known figure in the agricultural and pastoral life of Southland, and was also a member of many local bodies. Deceased was born in Kaiapoi in 1874, his father being the Rev. W. McGregor, a pioneer Presbyterian minister, who started church services in Rangiora, Gust, Oxford and Amberley. Deceased, when It) years of age, took up a section on the Cheviot .Estate when it was opened for closer settlement, his block being near one held by a former Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes. Four years later he sold out and took over a grazing run in Hundalee, and subsequently the Lake Heron Run, in the Ashburton County. Forty-two years ago lie acquired an interest in the Mount Linton Station, at Ohai, in Southland. For 30 years Mr McGregor took a keen interest in local body affairs, being a member of the Wallace County Council, the Bluff Harbour .Board, the A. and P. Association and other organisations. He was a breeder of stud Romneys for 40 years, and for a time was an executive member of the Romney Marsh Sheepbreeders’ Association. Mr McGregor is survived by his widow, one son and two daughters.
