CHINESE CREW STEAL SHIP

OFFICERS LEFT ASHORE SYDNEY, Mar. 27. Reports are circulating in Sydney that while the officers of the steamer Barunda were ashore at Morotai last Thursday night, the Chinese crew stole the ship. The vessel, which is a 900-ton steamer previously owned by an Australian company, and now under a Panamanian charter, is manned by a Chinese crew, and six Australian and European officers. She left Sydney on February 16 with essential supplies for Hong Kong. During the voyage trouble was experienced with the crew. At Morotai Captain Stubsen, a Norwegian, requested an allocation of Navy personnel to the ship, but she sailed at midnight on Thursday without her officers and before , the personnel could be allotted.
