MARCH 28 1841—William Bryan, pioneer vessel, arrived at New Plymouth. 1854—War declared against Russia in Crimea. 1941 —Naval victory off Matapan. 1943—Reported that 8000 Frenchmen aged between 18 and 32, are daily forcibly deported to Germany. 1945 —Allies break main German defence in West.
