ANNUAL MEETING AT ALLENTON The annual meeting of the Allenton Women’s Institute was held yesterday in the sports pavilion. Mrs Scott presided over a good attendance. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. Mrs Pearce, of the Mid-Can-terbury Executive, who occupied the chair for the election of officers, congratulated members on their years work and' on their national savings account of £l5B 10s 6d.' Mrs P® a J’ c ® spoke briefly on institute work and the housekeeping scheme. The incoming president and secretary were nominated as delegates to the council meeting in the Masonic Hall on Tuesday, April 9. ■ The election of officers resulted: President, Mrs Scott; vice-presidents, Mesdames Hale, Paul and Noble; honorary secretary, Mrs Argyle; honorary treasurer, Mrs Paul; assistantsecretary, Mrs Allan; committee, Mesdames Cooper, Clucas, Church, Greer, Hawke, Hooper and Miss Douglas. A trophy given by Mrs J. A. Walker in memory of his late wife— -a keen and interested member —to be held tor one year by the winner of competitions, was presented by Miss Knox to Mrs McElhinney. Sprays were presented to the president, secretary and treasurer and Mrs Pearce. . Competitions resulted: —Most points for the year, Mrs McElhinney 1, Mrs Hale 2, Mrs Douglas 3; most entries, Mrs Greaves; jar of flowers, Miss M. Osborn 1, Mrs McElhinney 2, Miss J. Copland 3; shoulder spray, Mesdames Hale and Greaves (equal) 1, Mrs Scott 2, Miss Douglas 3. The hostesses were Mesdames Vartlia, Church, Storey and Beauvais.
