CHANGE OPPOSED

STATUS OF SARAWAK (Rec 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 20. Mr Anthony Brooke, Rajah of Muda, Sarawak, said he would fight tooth and nail the proposal to make Sarawak a Crown colony before the people were consulted under their own constitution. He said that Sarawak was not British. It would be an anachronism if it were reduced from the status of a sovereign independent state to a Crown colony. Mr Brooke was head of the provisional government which was dismissed from office last October without explanation. He is a nephew of the white rajah, Sir Charles Vyner Brookes.
